Slovak Prime Minister Fico predicted a quick end to the war in Ukraine.
Before the EU summit, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico expressed his opinion on the likely quick end to the war in Ukraine.
According to the Slovak news agency TASR, Fico stated that the probability of the war in Ukraine ending in the near future is very high. He hopes that the European Council meeting will discuss the possible invitation of Ukraine to NATO, but believes that it will not be free.
The Prime Minister also confirmed his support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and readiness to support any peace plan for conflict resolution. However, he expressed doubts about the possibility of achieving a just peace now.
Fico also noted that he seeks balanced relations with Russia and believes that the Russians will not free Crimea and the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. He believes the conflict cannot have a military resolution.
Regarding assistance to Ukraine, the Prime Minister stated that Slovakia continues to provide humanitarian support, including electricity. He also emphasized the importance of cooperation with Ukraine on oil and gas imports to Slovakia. Fico declared that their duty is to ensure the continuation of oil and gas transit through Ukraine and Slovakia.
Previously, Robert Fico expressed his protest against Ukraine joining NATO, but after the end of the war, he hopes to restore normal relations with Russia.
