The President of France will raise the issue of a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine at the EU leaders' summit.
The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, plans to raise the issue of deploying a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine at a European Union meeting if a ceasefire and peace between Ukraine and Russia is reached. This was reported by a diplomat from Europe who was not authorized to make comments to the media.
Many officials say that discussing this issue is too early. This was confirmed by the new head of the EU diplomatic corps, Kayka Kallas. However, such a discussion is unfathomable, considering Macron's visit to Poland, media discussions about peacekeepers, and the expected return of Donald Trump to power in the United States.
Two other diplomats noted that such discussions are being held to prepare for talks with Trump and to ensure the EU's presence at the peace negotiations. But their words indicate that this topic is still at the idea stage and requires further discussion.
At the moment, for the European Union to send its troops to Ukraine, the consent of all member countries is required, but right now this issue is not even being raised. This was stated by European Commission spokesperson Paola Pinho.
According to the plan of the elected U.S. President Donald Trump, European and British troops could be stationed in a buffer zone extending 1200 kilometers between the Russian and Ukrainian armies.
Moreover, the UK may send its troops to Ukraine if Trump reduces support for Kyiv. This was stated by former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
