Replacing Your Payment Cards

According to Novyny.live: PrivatBank is advising its clients to replace payment cards that have expired or are nearing their expiration date. This recommendation is primarily due to restrictions that may prevent older cards from functioning for transactions outside of Ukraine. While the bank has extended card validity periods during the ongoing state of martial law, it strongly recommends proactively updating payment methods to ensure seamless financial operations. For many Ukrainians, maintaining reliable access to funds, both domestically and abroad, is critically important.

Clients can conveniently order a new card online via the Privat24 app, simplifying the replacement process. It is worth noting that a planned 80 UAH delivery fee for cards within Ukraine, which was scheduled for 2026, has been canceled. This decision aims to facilitate easier access to new cards for all customers.

Reasons for Card Blocking

Older cards may be blocked for several reasons, including:

  • Breach of contractual obligations;
  • Outdated or inaccurate client information;
  • Violation of court rulings;
  • Lack of financial activity on the account;
  • Repeated incorrect PIN entry;
  • Failure to pass financial monitoring checks.

Customers are advised to remain vigilant and ensure their personal data is current to avoid potential disruptions.

A variety of replacement card options are available, such as:

  • 'Universal' Card;
  • Payment Card;
  • 'Universal Gold' Card;
  • 'Junior' Card;
  • 'Key to Account' Card;
  • Premium cards.

For now, older cards will remain functional for certain domestic operations. These include in-store and online purchases within Ukraine, cash withdrawals at ATMs, terminals, and bank counters, as well as transactions via the web version and the 'Privat24' application.

Replacing cards is a crucial step for enhancing the security of customer transactions and adapting to evolving payment system standards. PrivatBank encourages its clients to replace their cards in a timely manner to prevent future complications.

This initiative by PrivatBank reflects a broader trend within the banking sector toward strengthening security and adapting to the demands of the modern financial environment.

As restrictions on using older cards abroad could impact customer mobility, timely replacement will help avoid inconveniences during international transactions. The diverse range of new card options, designed to meet the needs of different client groups, also promotes greater financial inclusion.
