Zelensky Discusses Security Guarantees for Ukraine in Berlin: Summit Details.
According to ТСН: President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in Berlin for negotiations with representatives of the USA and European countries at an international summit dedicated to ending the war and ensuring Ukraine's security.
The head of state emphasized the importance of this meeting, as Ukraine discusses its 20-point plan for the first time, with the main goal of achieving a ceasefire.
According to Zelensky, halting hostilities can significantly improve the security situation on the ground and reduce risks for civilians.
The president noted that Ukraine's position remains unchanged: 'any ceasefire must be accompanied by clear and legally binding security guarantees.' He also remarked that past experience has shown that without real deterrent mechanisms, Russia can resume aggression after a break in the war.
Zelensky stressed that the current negotiations focus not only on peace but also on preventing future wars. Therefore, Ukraine demands that security guarantees be legally enshrined and mandatory to comply with.
The president highlighted the importance of consultations with the United States regarding possible formats for guarantees that may resemble NATO's Article 5. He emphasized that it is crucial for Ukraine to know how the United States will respond in the event of renewed aggression by Russia, as well as to ensure that these commitments receive support from Congress.
Zelensky is confident that the summit in Berlin can become an important step toward real decisions that not only stop the war but also ensure long-term security and stability for Ukraine.
He also mentioned that there will be a meeting today with the American negotiating team in Germany.
“We are focusing on how to reliably guarantee security for Ukraine, so that the experience of the Budapest Memorandum and Russia's invasion never happens again,” Zelensky emphasized.
The President of Ukraine also noted that NATO membership is considered the most reliable security guarantee, but has not received full support from partners. Currently, Ukraine is aimed at bilateral security guarantees with the USA and commitments from European countries and allies.
Zelensky underscored that these guarantees must prevent renewed Russian aggression and are a compromise from Ukraine.
Importantly, the talks in Berlin continue to shape international support for Ukraine in difficult times. As Zelensky emphasized, stable security is the key to a peaceful future that everyone seeks to ensure for Ukraine and its citizens.
