According to ТСН: Protests in Iran, triggered by worsening economic conditions, the devaluation of the national currency, and difficulties in everyday life, are gaining momentum. Recently, clashes between demonstrators and police occurred in several provinces, resulting in human casualties.

According to the semi-official Fars News Agency, at least three protesters have died, and 17 were injured during an attack on a police station in the western province of Lorestan.

Rising tensions between protesters and security forces

Conflicts between activists and law enforcement have escalated since the protests began last weekend. These were the largest demonstrations in the country in the last three years, sparked by nationwide discontent following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. She died while in police custody due to accusations of improper hijab wearing.

It has also been reported that a member of the paramilitary Basij force, which the authorities often use to suppress protests, was killed in the city of Kuhdasht (Lorestan province). At least 13 people were injured.

Arrests of protesters

The human rights organization Hengaw reported that Iranian authorities have already arrested at least 29 participants in the protests across different parts of the country.

The U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, expressed support for the Iranians protesting for freedom, noting that the current regime has brought only economic decline and wars to the country.

It is also worth mentioning that on New Year's Eve, protesters set fire to a Basij outpost in the city of Chenari. These events highlight the deep social discontent in Iran, which is growing amid a prolonged economic crisis and restrictions on personal freedoms. The protests currently taking place are a signal that the citizens of the country are ready to stand up for their rights, despite the risks.
