Rada banned the mobilization of men under the age of 25.
Law on military service by persons under 25 years old
Yesterday, the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the second reading law No. 11379-d, which concerns the passage of military service by persons under 25 years of age. This was reported by People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak. 311 deputies voted for this law.
The main purpose of the law is to prohibit the mobilization of men aged 18 to 25 who are deemed limited fit.
Until now, the mobilization of persons aged 18 to 25 was carried out due to a certain legal loophole, which allowed transferring the "limited fit in wartime" from the list of conscripts to the list of those liable for military service. This meant that thousands of men considered "limited fit in wartime" were mobilized, while healthy peers under 25 were not suitable for mobilization due to age.
The new law No. 11379-d does not provide for the demobilization of persons who have already been mobilized into the Armed Forces as a result of previous legislative norms.
According to Ukraine's plans, another 200,000 recruits are to be mobilized by the end of 2024. However, the implementation of these plans presents some difficulty due to various factors such as a decrease in the number of men of conscription age and resistance to mobilization among the population.
It is also worth noting that in Ukraine, the mobilization of students is carried out according to law No. 10449. Most students receiving education have the right to deferment from conscription, although there are exceptions when a student may be called up for military service.
Roman Kostenko, Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, believes that the mobilization age in Ukraine should be 20 years.
