Deployment of the Flamingo Missile
According to UATV: Ukraine’s defense forces are using the Flamingo, a domestically produced long-range missile, for deep strikes into Russia. Each unit costs less than $600,000, making it far more economical than the American Tomahawk, which carries a price tag of roughly $3.5 million. This cost efficiency allows Ukrainian troops to conduct long-distance attacks while preserving valuable resources.
Manufacturing Capacity and Operational Impact
A Ukrainian company produces approximately one hundred Flamingo missiles every month, reflecting strong industrial output and a commitment to arming the military. Each missile can deliver over one ton of explosives, enhancing its effectiveness on the battlefield.
In one known engagement, a Flamingo flew about 1,800 kilometers and penetrated the roof of the Avitek plant in Kirov. As Irina Terekh stated,
‘the Flamingo rocket costs just under $600,000’, underscoring its affordability relative to other options.
The Flamingo’s use demonstrates Ukraine’s ability to expand its own defense industry during the conflict and provide the military with cost-effective, high-damage weapons. Expanded production of such missiles could alter the strategic landscape by enabling Ukraine to execute long-range strikes at a fraction of the cost, potentially disrupting enemy plans.
