Romania and Croatia joined the procurement of weapons for Ukraine: what will the army receive.
According to ТСН: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Romania and Croatia joined the international initiative PURL (Procurement of United States Resources for Ukraine).
The head of state emphasized that this program allows partner countries to combine efforts to procure American weapons for Ukraine. The new participants have already made their first contributions, which will significantly strengthen Ukraine's defense. The involvement of these countries creates new opportunities for the quick procurement of vital defense assets. Zelensky noted that the program's funds are allocated to the most necessary items for effective resistance against aggression from Russia.
“I thank Romania and Croatia for joining PURL and announcing the first contributions to the program. This is an important initiative that allows us to purchase American weapons and strengthen our defense. In particular, these are missiles for the 'patriots' and other means we need,” – said Volodymyr Zelensky.
Scale of support and plans for 2026
PURL is a joint mechanism of the USA and NATO, established in 2025, which allows partner countries to finance the procurement of critically important American weapons and technologies for Ukraine, addressing its priority requests and accelerating supply to the front.
Since the launch of the initiative in August, 24 countries have joined, including Germany, Poland, Canada, as well as Baltic and Northern European countries. The total amount of accumulated funds has reached 4.3 billion dollars, of which nearly 1.5 billion dollars were contributed by partners in December alone. These resources have already allowed the formation of eight aid packages, and the filling of two more is ongoing. The President expressed gratitude to all partners who supported Ukraine throughout 2025 and are ready to help in 2026 to ensure the security of all Europe.
The accession of Romania and Croatia to the PURL program underscores the importance of international support for Ukraine amidst ongoing aggression. This initiative not only strengthens the country's defense capabilities but also demonstrates solidarity from European partners. The support received from new participants will be an important milestone on the path to ensuring stability and security in the region.
