Russia has no veto power: The West will determine security guarantees for Ukraine.
In the civilized world, there should be a clear stance regarding security guarantees for Ukraine. Political scientist Igor Reiterovich stated this in a program on the FREEДОМ channel.
According to the expert, the West should not doubt the security guarantees for Ukraine. At the same time, the aggressor country cannot influence the determination of security guarantees for the attacked country.
'In this case, Russia must sit in the corner and be silent. Making statements that they are against guarantees or do not want guarantees to be like this is very silly. This could still be discussed concerning a country that is, for example, a colony or occupied, but not concerning an independent, completely sovereign country,' emphasized Reiterovich.
The political scientist noted that Russia acts aggressively due to its imperial ambitions and cannot respect other countries, including Ukraine, as sovereign states.
'It is important to see a clear position of our partners who will define security guarantees. This issue is just starting to be discussed. President Zelensky noted after the meeting in Washington that a framework document will be developed, in which these concepts and possible guarantees will be defined,' emphasized Reiterovich.
According to the expert, Russia is trying to undermine the negotiation process by spreading its propaganda, but this will not succeed, and Europe understands this and is pleased.
'Russia has already received a clear answer several times that the Russian Federation has no right to dictate security guarantees for Ukraine. The Russian Federation may interfere in this matter and, perhaps, even make it dependent on a meeting with Putin. But the stable, unequivocal position of Ukraine's partners will make this tactic futile, and the Russians will sooner or later abandon this approach,' concluded the guest of the program.
