Russian Military Launches Major Offensive Against Ukraine

According to UATV: On June 15, 2023, Russian forces carried out a large-scale combined attack across Ukraine, placing particular emphasis on the capital city of Kyiv while also targeting Dnipro and Kharkiv. The operation involved a total of 681 aerial assault assets, including 70 missiles and 611 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The weaponry deployed in this assault consisted of:

  • 6 3M22 'Zircon' anti-ship missiles
  • 34 'Iskander-M' and S-400 ballistic missiles
  • 30 Kh-101 and 'Iskander-K' cruise missiles

According to military reports, Ukrainian forces successfully intercepted or neutralized 632 aerial targets, including 50 missiles and 582 drones. Among the destroyed threats were 5 3M22 'Zircon' anti-ship missiles, 15 'Iskander-M' and S-400 ballistic missiles, and all 30 Kh-101 and 'Iskander-K' cruise missiles. During the attack, 20 ballistic missiles and 27 drones were tracked across 42 locations, with UAV debris found at 12 additional sites.

Conflict Intensifies

Notably, just one day earlier on June 14, a drone strike targeted the Kharkiv Art Museum. This wave of attacks underscores the escalating nature of the conflict and the mounting dangers faced by Ukraine amid ongoing warfare.

These events highlight a sharp increase in combat intensity across Ukraine, particularly felt in major urban centers. While Ukrainian air defense systems have proven highly effective against such massive assaults, the risks to civilian populations and critical infrastructure remain severe. The scale and coordination of these strikes also suggest a tactical shift by Russian forces, as they continue to explore new methods of applying pressure in the protracted conflict.
