Republicans warn Trump of catastrophic consequences of halting aid to Ukraine.
Republican lawmakers urge Trump to reverse decision to suspend military and intelligence aid to Ukraine
Legislators from the Republican Party of the USA are urging President Trump to cancel his decision to stop military and intelligence aid to Ukraine. They warn that a prolonged halt of American support could have serious negative consequences for Ukraine.
According to The Hill, Republican senators acknowledge Trump's right to temporarily halt weapons supplies to assess the situation and create a window for negotiations with the presidents of Russia and Ukraine.
However, they caution that a prolonged delay in arms supplies could negatively impact Ukraine's ability to conduct the war and undermine its position in negotiations with Russia. Some senators have also expressed concern regarding the suspension of status for Ukrainian refugees living in the USA.
Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky had a heated disagreement during a meeting in the Oval Office last week, which led to the announcement of the aid halt and the exchange of intelligence data with Ukraine.
Experts warn that without the involvement of European allies and compensation for the lack of weapons provided by the USA, Ukraine's forces could fracture under pressure from Russia within four to six months.
