Zelensky has not received messages from Trump after the summit with Putin: Kyiv's reaction.
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has still not received any messages or calls from US President Donald Trump after his negotiations with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Alaska. In Kyiv, this situation has caused surprise, as prior to the meeting, Trump had stated that he would demand that Putin end the war, but the summit ended without any commitments.
Kyiv awaits explanations from the USA
According to the Financial Times, a source close to the Ukrainian president confirmed that Zelensky had not received any news from Trump after his meeting with Putin. This silence has been called 'very strange' in Kyiv, and they expect further explanations from Washington.
'Now it really all depends on President Zelensky to make this happen. And I would also say that European countries need to step in a little. But it depends on President Zelensky... And if they want, I will be at the next meeting.'
The summit in Alaska, which was the first meeting of the American and Russian leaders since the full-scale invasion in 2022, started loudly but ended without a breakthrough. Donald Trump could not secure any commitments from Putin regarding the cessation of the war. 'Make a deal. Russia is a very large country, and you are not. You are fighting a large military machine,' Trump added, addressing Zelensky. The Ukrainian president's team perceived the results of the meeting as disappointing, as little progress was made.
Recall that former US national security adviser John Bolton commented on Donald Trump's meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
