Recent key news reports a massive bombardment of Ukraine, the Kremlin's refusal to negotiate peace, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

On the night of August 30, Russia carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine using drones and rockets. In Zaporizhzhia, over 20 apartment buildings and about 120 private homes were damaged. Cafes, a service station, and an industrial enterprise were also hit. Fires broke out at the explosion sites, 34 people were injured, and one person was killed.

'Since May 1, I've been sleeping on a folding bed; my apartment is cornered — there have been five hits. This time, I heard — the neighbors ran. I don't run, I have asthma and my heart hurts. I don't go down when it flies, I sit in the bathroom with documents. Today there were two hits, it felt like it fell on the roof. I heard everything crash, everything fell, a large window fell in my apartment, the TV fell,' — said Zaporizhzhia resident Anna.

Another resident noted that her pet saved her life.

'My dog saved my life, I stepped back in time, otherwise... He felt it and saved me. I didn't understand what he wanted. He was jumping at the window and jumping. I heard, I said: step back from the windows quickly. Everyone stepped back and hid in the hallway. Otherwise, it would have torn me apart,' — she said.

Bombardments in Dnipro and their consequences

Dnipro suffered continuous shelling for more than three hours. This attack damaged infrastructure, private, and industrial enterprises. One of the rockets hit a residential building directly.

'I woke up around three, probably. It was loud, very loud. My husband is still sick, he started having panic attacks. It's very scary,' — said Dnipro resident Svitlana.

Dmytro's house was burned as a result of the Russian army's strike.

'Neighbors called me, I arrived around half-past four in the morning. And saw that the house was burning. Then the firefighters arrived, extinguished everything. But nothing was left of the house,' — he said.

In total, during the night attack, the Russian armed forces launched 45 rockets and more than 500 drones. The Ukrainian aviation destroyed 510 drones and 38 rockets of various types.

'Overall, during the strike, the radio-technical forces of the Air Forces detected and accompanied 582 means of air attack. The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, and drone systems,' — the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, noted that Russia struck 14 regions of the country. He urged the international community to take decisive action.

'The time allotted to prepare for the meeting in the leaders' format was used by Moscow to prepare new massive strikes. The only way to reopen the path to diplomacy is strict tariffs against all those who provide the Russian army with funding,' — emphasized the President of Ukraine.

SCO summit and international reaction

At the same time, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit is taking place in China, where leaders from more than 20 countries are present. Zelenskyy hopes they will call on Putin to ceasefire.

'I spoke with Indian Prime Minister Modi about what is happening. Russia continues the war, it's important that the Prime Minister of India supported the call for a ceasefire,' — stated Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

France and Germany also called for additional sanctions against supporters of Russia.

'We will continue to push for additional sanctions — and we are ready to do so,' — said the Chancellor of Germany.

The Kremlin continues its opposition to the international community on issues of supporting aggression and economic consequences. Since the beginning of the year, more than 291,000 Russian soldiers have been killed in battles in eastern Ukraine, as well as a significant amount of equipment.
