The State Employment Service revealed data on employment: why there are more job seekers of older age

According to inkorr.com: The State Employment Service presented data on the demand and supply in the labor market depending on the age of job seekers.

According to the Employment Service, in 2025 the age of job seekers will be inversely proportional to the employer's demand. This means that the demand dictates the need for a maximally young employee, while the number of older job seekers is increasing.

Today, the age structure of job seekers is distributed as follows (due to rounding, the total is slightly less than 100%):

  • 15-19 years – 2.5% of the total number of Employment Service clients,
  • 20-24 years – 6%,
  • 25-29 years – 6.4%,
  • 30-34 years – 10%,
  • 35-39 years – 13%,
  • 40-44 years – 13.5%,
  • 45-49 years – 14%,
  • 50-54 years – 14%,
  • 55+ years – 20%.

The number of the youngest job seekers is almost 10 times less than that of the oldest.

Popularity of job vacancies by age groups

According to the Department of Labor Market Analysis and Monitoring of Employment Program Efficiency, young people aged 15-19 usually look for vacancies for unskilled positions. The most popular among them are sellers, hairdressers, and tractor drivers.

In the age category of 20-24 years, more professional requests emerge. The most popular vacancies for this group include sellers, teachers, laborers, administrators, and cashiers.

Analyzing the demand and supply in the labor market by age, it becomes clear which vacancies are in the highest demand among different age groups. This helps to understand which categories of workers are most needed in certain sectors.

Overall, trends in the labor market indicate that employers prefer younger workers, which may pose challenges for older job seekers with experience. Ensuring a balance between the demand for young professionals and the needs of experienced workers is an important step for the development of the economy of Ukraine.
