Russia Strikes the Izium-Oskil Highway with Lancet Drones: What’s Happening in Kharkiv Region.
The Situation in the Oskil Community
According to Novyny.live: Russian forces have launched a fresh wave of attacks on vehicles along the road connecting Izium and Oskil, deploying 'Lancet' kamikaze drones. The situation in the Oskil community remains dire as shelling of populated areas persists and assault tactics evolve. Hennadii Zahoruiko noted that
“over the past month, the security situation has not improved”and added that
“one distinctive feature is that they have started using Lancets to target vehicles”.
As of June 17, only 127 people remain in the village of Oskil. This reflects a shrinking local population due to relentless shelling and the threat posed by Russian troops. Meanwhile, on June 16, 243 individuals passed through the transit evacuation point in Lozova. Since that facility began operations, a total of 40,495 evacuees have been registered, highlighting active efforts to rescue civilians.
Critical Conditions and Evacuation Efforts
Additionally, since June 11, vehicle movement between Balakliia and Kehychivka has been temporarily suspended, complicating travel across the region. Against this backdrop, the situation in the Oskil community remains critical, and the enemy’s shifting attack tactics are raising alarm among local residents and authorities.
The ongoing crisis in the Oskil community underscores the growing challenges faced by civilians still living in the conflict zone. Intensified Russian military activity and the adoption of new methods, such as drone strikes, are causing serious concerns for the safety of local inhabitants. The robust evacuation measures demonstrate the urgent need to rescue people trapped in harm’s way.
