Russian Strikes Target Five Ukrainian Regions on February 22, Damaging Civilian Infrastructure.
Civilian Infrastructure in Ukraine Under Attack
According to UATV: On February 22, 2023, a Russian assault damaged civilian and transport infrastructure across multiple Ukrainian regions, specifically in Kirovohrad, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Odesa oblasts. In the city of Kropyvnytskyi, several private homes and power lines were hit. Strikes on railway infrastructure also resulted in damage to two locomotives. These attacks are part of a sustained campaign targeting Ukraine's energy grid and essential services.
Repair Efforts Underway
The attacks were carried out using a combination of drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles. Emergency repair crews have already begun restoration work to return power to residents as quickly as possible. According to the regional military administration, this is the top priority in the current situation.
Oleksiy Kuleba, a government representative, stated that 'Russia is deliberately terrorizing the civilian population and vital life-support systems. Our task is to ensure the resilience and continuous operation of infrastructure, despite any attacks.'
These strikes form part of Russia's broader strategy to destabilize Ukraine, resulting in significant losses for the civilian population and infrastructure. Restoring damaged infrastructure, particularly power supply and transport links, is critically important for maintaining societal function during wartime. The response of local authorities and the speed of repair work can play a key role in sustaining public morale and preserving stability in the regions affected by the attacks.
