According to UATV: In the early hours of March 9, 2023, Russian forces launched a combined aerial attack against Ukraine, firing two 'Iskander-M' ballistic missiles and deploying 197 attack drones. The missiles were launched from the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula, while the drones originated from several locations within the Russian Federation, including the cities of Oryol, Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Hvardiiske in Crimea.

Drone Attack and Ukrainian Air Defense Response

Approximately 120 of the 197 drones were identified as models including 'Shahed', 'Gerbera', and 'Italmas'. Ukrainian air defense forces, however, demonstrated significant capability in countering the assault. By 08:00, Ukrainian forces had reportedly destroyed or neutralized 161 hostile drones. Despite these efforts, two missiles and 36 attack drones struck eight different locations across the country.

“Preliminary data indicates that air defense units have shot down or neutralized 161 enemy UAVs of the 'Shahed', 'Gerbera', 'Italmas' types and other drones in the north, south, and east of the country,” stated representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
