Why Russia Is Striking Civilian Targets in Crimea with Ballistic Missiles.
Russia's Continued Use of Ballistic Missiles
According to Espreso.tv: Military analyst Serhiy Bratchuk reports that Russian forces are still deploying ballistic missiles in Crimea, with near-daily strikes on civilian infrastructure, including gas stations. According to Bratchuk, these attacks are designed to distract the public from the successful operations of Ukraine’s defense forces.
Bratchuk, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian Volunteer Army, stressed that despite Ukrainian countermeasures, ballistic missile threats remain a pressing concern.
“Unfortunately, ballistic missiles are still a real threat,” – Serhiy Bratchuk. These strikes not only damage infrastructure but also aim to undermine civilian morale.
Attacks on Ukrainian Cities
On July 8, the Russian army launched assaults on several Ukrainian cities, including:
- Kharkiv
- Kyiv
- Zaporizhzhia
- Odesa
- Dnipropetrovsk region
- Sumy region
These attacks, particularly in the Mykolaiv, Kherson, capital, Odesa, and Kharkiv areas, resulted in seven fatalities. In Odesa, a powerful strike the previous day killed four people and injured seven others, who were hospitalized.
Bratchuk also highlighted that
“gas stations aren’t just about fuel logistics”. This underscores the enemy’s intent to target not only physical infrastructure but also strategically vital facilities that sustain daily life.
Thus, Russian forces persist with their aggressive tactics, endangering civilians and destabilizing the region. Ukraine’s defense forces continue to counter these challenges, protecting civilians amid ongoing hostilities.
In the broader context of the war in Ukraine, Russia’s use of ballistic missiles against civilian targets highlights the severe risks faced by non-combatants and the adversary’s strategy to sow chaos. Strikes on life-sustaining infrastructure can profoundly affect public morale and overall security. Ukraine’s defense forces remain resilient, pushing back against aggression in these difficult wartime conditions.
