Zelensky on negotiations with Russia: why the Kremlin could sabotage the agreement at the last moment

According to ТСН: Can Russia pull out of the negotiations at the last moment? Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky does not exclude such a possibility, although Kyiv is doing everything possible to achieve a fair outcome while maintaining its sovereignty.

Critical stage of the diplomatic process

Zelensky called the current stage of diplomatic negotiations critically important.

“I believe that the last mile is the most difficult. Unfortunately, everything could fall apart now for various reasons. There are many risks regarding this,”

he noted. The president also emphasized the constructive approach of the Ukrainian side, reminding that there is a daily exchange of proposals through American partners.

“We are acting, we are working every day. They sent a document, there are questions about it, we refined it, changing forms, added solutions and sent them the document. This is how it works,”

the president explained, adding that Kyiv maintains contact with Washington every day, sometimes several times a day.

At the same time, he noted: constructiveness does not mean capitulation.

“We are not surrendering our state, we are not giving up our independence, which is important,”

Zelensky emphasized.

Economic problems of Russia and the Kremlin's fear

In Zelensky's opinion, Russia does not demonstrate a genuine desire to end the war. Moscow's participation in the negotiations is conditional on serious economic difficulties and fear of the new administration of the USA.

“I believe they have serious economic problems... they need, in my opinion, a pause,”

he noted. The Kremlin understands the risks of confrontation with Donald Trump. If Putin refuses peace, the US reaction could be harsh.

“It will be even more difficult if they tell President Trump that they do not want to end the war. President Trump will continue to apply pressure. And they do not want that,”

the Ukrainian leader explained.

Zelensky also warned partners against Russia's “diplomatic tricks,” which Moscow often used earlier to avoid tightening sanctions.

The situation around the negotiations underscores the importance of international support for Ukraine in the face of challenges. A successful resolution of the conflict requires constant attention and effort from the global community, as it affects not only stability in the region but also global security. It is important that all parties remain committed to constructive dialogue, despite the difficulties.
