Drone strikes on Russian refineries caused fuel shortages and a 100% increase in prices.
According to FREEДOM:
Impact of drone attacks on the Russian economy
Ukrainian drones striking Russian oil refineries have led to fuel shortages and rising gasoline prices in various regions of Russia and temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. Economic analysts believe this could trigger inflation growth and a new wave of economic instability in the Russian Federation. The Center for Countering Disinformation under Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council reported on August 27 that some products in Russia have already risen in price by 100%, as reported by FREEДОМ.
'In Russia, prices for everything have significantly increased and continue to rise — from utility tariffs, rental costs to school supplies and basic food products... In reality, the constant growth of budget expenditures on the war against Ukraine, which has already led to a record budget deficit, forces Russians to pay for Putin's geopolitical ambitions with their own well-being,' the message on the Center's website reads.
Financial problems of Russia
It should be noted that the Russian budget deficit has reached record levels: by the end of the first half of 2025, it will amount to 3.7 trillion rubles, according to calculations by the Russian Ministry of Finance. This amount is six times higher than the figure for the same period last year and is practically approaching the planned deficit for the entire year of 2025. Kremlin expenditures are rising while revenues are decreasing under the pressure of sanctions.
In the context of rapidly rising costs caused by the war, the Russian economy faces serious challenges. The increase in prices for essential goods and services worsens the lives of many citizens who are forced to adapt to new conditions. Economic problems could reflect on social stability in the country, as the realization of political ambitions threatens the everyday lives of people.
