Is Russia preparing for war with NATO? More military infrastructure near the border.
Russian troops are strengthening their bases and building military infrastructure near the Finnish border, which may indicate their plans after the war in Ukraine ends. According to The New York Times, new tents, vehicle storage facilities, aircraft shelter repairs, and active construction activities at the helicopter base have been observed in satellite images.
NATO representatives believe that these actions are not related to a warning of a full-scale invasion like the one that occurred in 2022. Finland, which joined NATO two years ago, perceives these actions as a threat, as the long border has become a point of confrontation with Russia.
Preparation for conflict
«It will involve a much higher troop density», – said Brigadier General Pekka Turunen, head of the Finnish Defence Intelligence.
Leading military analysts warn that conflict on this border could erupt at any moment, especially considering the disputed territory of the Arctic Circle. American and Finnish forces have conducted exercises in which Russia was the main potential adversary.
The Russian armed forces are gradually strengthening their presence near the Finnish border in preparation for a possible confrontation with NATO, which Finnish military forces are trying to avoid. While the world watches the negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, Russia is actively mobilizing military forces to the north, establishing and developing a military base in that area.
