Russian Strikes Hit Kharkiv and Kryvyi Rih, Killing One and Damaging Civilian Infrastructure.
Ukrainian Cities Attacked on January 26, 2023
According to UATV: On January 26, 2023, Russian military forces launched attacks on the Ukrainian cities of Kryvyi Rih and Kharkiv. The assault on Kharkiv resulted in the death of one man and left two others wounded. A school and a kindergarten were damaged in the city, sparking outrage among local residents. These attacks are part of a broader pattern of strikes on urban centers far from the front lines.
Separately, in Kryvyi Rih, a Russian 'Shahed' drone struck a multi-story residential building, causing a fire. Emergency and rescue operations are underway at the site to manage the aftermath of the attack and assist the victims.
Widespread Assaults Across Ukraine
Overall on January 26, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian territory with 138 strike drones. The Kherson Regional Military Administration reported that the enemy once again targeted critical and social infrastructure, as well as residential areas, causing damage not only to homes but also to educational institutions. The use of such drones has become a frequent tactic in Russia's campaign to overwhelm Ukrainian air defenses.
These bombardments confirm the continuation of Russia's aggressive tactics aimed at destabilizing Ukraine, specifically through strikes on civilian objects. The situation in the affected regions remains tense as local services work to cope with the consequences of the attacks and provide aid to the injured. This also underscores the critical importance of sustained international support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict.
