Public and political figure Mykola Tomenko noted that with the increasing likelihood of important international negotiations, both sides become more active on the battlefield. He cited the situation at the Kherson front, where there has recently been an escalation of hostilities.

Russia wants to gain maximum on the front and at the negotiations

'When there is a high probability of certain decisions being made, everyone tries to act maximally until the last second in order to bargain for more. That is, the closer such a meeting gets, the more serious the level of hostilities will be, in my opinion,' Tomenko noted.

Tomenko emphasized that going into negotiations, the Kremlin intends to maximize its benefits and demonstrate its victories. He also shared his impressions of the situation in Kherson region, where previously he could remain calmly, but now the situation has become more complicated.

Tomenko also commented on the high likelihood of a bilateral meeting between Putin and Trump, but noted that a trilateral format of negotiations in Monaco is also possible, which will have important strategic significance. Russia has confirmed the planned meeting of leaders, but the U.S. State Department is concerned that the Kremlin may change its position due to the threat of secondary sanctions.

In light of the increasing likelihood of international negotiations, it becomes clear that both sides have intensified their actions both on the battlefield and in the diplomatic front. Russia aims to achieve maximum gains both during the negotiations and on the military front in eastern Ukraine. The planning of the meeting between Putin and Trump raises significant interest in both political circles and among the public. These negotiations could be significant not only for bilateral relations but also for the geopolitical situation in the world as a whole.
