Economist Analyzes Kremlin's Stance: Russia Seeks to Formalize Control Over Donbas.
Kremlin's Donbas Ambition Laid Bare in Economist's Analysis
According to Novyny.live: In a February 5 interview with Novyny.LIVE, economist Oleksiy Kushch outlined the Kremlin's position on Donbas, stating that Russia's objective is to have the region formally recognized as its own. He emphasized that Moscow is setting exceptionally rigid demands in any negotiations. This stance reflects a broader pattern of Russian policy since its initial military intervention in the region in 2014.
Kushch pointed out that Ukraine cannot discuss matters of territorial integrity, as doing so would be unconstitutional. According to him, this Ukrainian position creates a significant obstacle to any potential dialogue with Russia regarding Donbas. The economist believes the Kremlin's demands signal an intent to permanently cement its control over the area.
Ongoing Tension in Donbas
Consequently, the situation surrounding Donbas remains highly tense, with the Kremlin's clear position indicating a complete absence of compromise on the question of territorial ownership.
This economic analyst's commentary underscores the complexity and protracted nature of the regional conflict, given Russia's hardline stance and Ukraine's immutable policy on territorial integrity. The persistent lack of dialogue between the sides risks further escalation of tensions, which could impact regional security and international relations.
