US General: A demilitarized zone in Ukraine is a dangerous illusion for takeover.
According to ТСН: Any discussions about creating a demilitarized zone in Ukraine are a dangerous illusion. Russia could use this for a quick takeover of our territories.
Such an opinion was expressed by American General Ben Hodges in an interview with the Espresso channel. He noted that the current approach of the US administration to the war in Ukraine seems like an attempt to stop the fighting as quickly as possible, disregarding international law and sovereignty.
"It seems that the US administration sees Ukraine as a large real estate deal. That is why they openly say that Ukraine should give up part of its territories for the sake of peace. This is unacceptable for any Ukrainian and should not be acceptable to anyone, as it is a de facto reward for Russian aggression," Hodges emphasized.
Hodges emphasized that such an approach cannot be successful, since Washington has not made a clear assessment of the causes of the war. He stressed that Russia was not named an aggressor, and the main pressure was focused on Ukraine, forcing it to make concessions.
"Currently, there is no one in Ukraine and Europe who would believe for even a second that Putin will adhere to any agreements," he noted.
Hodges also resolutely rejected the idea of a demilitarized zone.
"The idea that Putin will agree to create a demilitarized zone is fantasy. The Russians will immediately fill it: if not with a regular army, then with the National Guard or so-called separatists. And then it will be too late for the US to change anything," the general explained.
He also noted that no formal guarantees, including NATO's fifth article, will work in this situation. Hodges emphasized that the only real security guarantee for Ukraine is its own ability to defend itself.
"It is about sufficient military potential, the development of the defense industry, and continuing strikes on Russian oil and gas infrastructure. These factors will be decisive for Ukraine's future security," he stressed.
The general also warned that Europe must take greater responsibility in supporting Ukraine.
"If Ukraine falls, all the consequences will be felt by Europe: millions of new refugees, energy and food shortages, and then direct Russian threats to the Baltic states or Poland. Thus, Europe will have to fill those gaps where the US is not coping," Hodges concluded.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that the issue of elections has activated the US, and strategic issues should be resolved by Ukrainians themselves.
Zelensky also criticized the details of the draft secret peace plan with 20 points that could change the course of history for Ukraine.
This situation underscores the importance of a clear understanding of international politics and strategy in conflict resolution. The war in Ukraine has a global context, and its resolution is critical not only for Ukrainians but also for the security of all Europe. We hope that the international community will find effective solutions to ensure peace and stability in the region.
