Russian Strike Hits Railway Station in Sumy Region: Casualties and Damage Reported.
Russian Attacks on Railway Infrastructure
According to TSN.ua: On March 12, 2023, Russian forces carried out an attack on a railway station in Ukraine’s Sumy Oblast. The explosion damaged several diesel locomotives, sections of track, and the station building itself. According to Oleksiy Kuleba,
“Today the enemy once again targeted civilian railway infrastructure. A Russian drone struck the grounds of a railway station in the Sumy region.” - Oleksiy Kuleba
Additional strikes were recorded against railway facilities in Mykolaiv Oblast, where a diesel locomotive also sustained damage. Kuleba confirmed that
“No one was injured. All relevant emergency services are working at the scene.” - Oleksiy Kuleba
Since the beginning of March 2023, there have been numerous attacks on the railway network, with rolling stock being a primary target. These incidents highlight the ongoing threat to civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.
The repeated assaults on railway infrastructure underscore rising tensions in the region, as Russian forces continue to strike civilian sites. Damage to rail transport can severely disrupt logistics and supply chains, which are especially critical during wartime.
