According to TSN.ua: On March 12, 2023, Russian forces carried out an attack on a railway station in Ukraine’s Sumy Oblast. The explosion damaged several diesel locomotives, sections of track, and the station building itself. According to Oleksiy Kuleba,

“Today the enemy once again targeted civilian railway infrastructure. A Russian drone struck the grounds of a railway station in the Sumy region.” - Oleksiy Kuleba

Additional strikes were recorded against railway facilities in Mykolaiv Oblast, where a diesel locomotive also sustained damage. Kuleba confirmed that

“No one was injured. All relevant emergency services are working at the scene.” - Oleksiy Kuleba

Since the beginning of March 2023, there have been numerous attacks on the railway network, with rolling stock being a primary target. These incidents highlight the ongoing threat to civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.

The repeated assaults on railway infrastructure underscore rising tensions in the region, as Russian forces continue to strike civilian sites. Damage to rail transport can severely disrupt logistics and supply chains, which are especially critical during wartime. These events also emphasize the urgent need to strengthen security measures to protect key infrastructure assets across Ukraine.
