Ukraine Intercepts 112 of 129 Russian Drones in Major Attack, Civilian Casualties Reported.
Russia Launches Major Drone Assault on Ukraine
According to UATV: On February 11, Russia launched a large-scale attack against Ukraine, deploying 129 strike drones from six different directions. The assault involved Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas-type unmanned aerial vehicles. According to reports, Ukrainian air defense systems managed to shoot down or suppress 112 of the hostile drones, though 15 UAVs reached their targets across eight separate locations.
The attack resulted in four civilian casualties, including two children. As noted by representatives of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,
"the attack is ongoing, with several hostile UAVs still in the airspace."This incident represents a continued escalation of the conflict and a persistent threat to the civilian population. The use of mass drone attacks has become a frequent tactic in Russia's ongoing invasion, which began in February 2022.
Russia's Escalating Drone Warfare
Russia's increasing reliance on drone attacks signals a shift in its war strategy, specifically an effort to intensify pressure on Ukrainian forces and civilians. The continuation of such assaults is likely to present new challenges for Ukraine's air defense network and heighten risks for non-combatants.
Amid the protracted conflict, ensuring the protection and security of the population, as well as developing effective countermeasures against emerging threats, remains critically important.
