Massive Russian Missile Barrage on Ukraine: The Toll from March 7-8 Attacks.
March 7 Strikes Across Ukraine
According to UATV: In a major overnight assault on March 7, Russian forces launched a combined attack using hypersonic, ballistic, and cruise missiles alongside drones. The primary targets were the regions of Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, and Kharkiv. The strikes resulted in the deaths of 10 people in Kharkiv, including two children. In Zaporizhzhia, a three-month-old girl was wounded. Further attacks on March 8 damaged specialized equipment and cut a power line in the Chernihiv region.
International Condemnation
Over the weekend, the Russian military fired a total of 31 missiles and 597 attack drones, drawing widespread condemnation from the international community. These attacks are part of a sustained campaign targeting Ukrainian civilian infrastructure and population centers.
Andrii Sybiha, a Ukrainian official: 'Russia is a terrorist state. There can be no easing of restrictions on these Russian murderers while they continue to kill Ukrainian children in their sleep.'
Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa also commented, stating, 'Strikes on energy infrastructure are a cynical attempt to intimidate the Ukrainian people. The EU firmly stands with Ukraine.' Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted Russia's ties with Iran, noting, 'We see information about Russian assistance to the Iranian regime: there are reports that Russians are providing intelligence to the regime in Iran to adjust strikes against Americans.'
These events underscore the continuation of Russian aggression against Ukraine and its broader impact on international relations, particularly Russia's support for Iran in its conflict with the US and Israel. The situation in Ukraine remains critical, with ongoing Russian attacks causing significant civilian casualties and destruction. The growing military cooperation between Moscow and Tehran is a source of global concern, as it risks altering regional security dynamics and further complicating geopolitical relations.
