According to UATV: On January 26, 2023, Russian forces launched a major assault across four regions of Ukraine, targeting the Kherson, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts. The attacks resulted in the death of one man and left multiple people wounded, including children. In Sumy Oblast, four civilians were injured, among them two children aged 8 and 11.

In Zaporizhzhia and its surrounding region, two people were wounded, while in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, one man was also injured. The Russian military attacked Ukrainian territory using 138 strike drones of various types, which caused significant damage to infrastructure.

Consequences of the Attacks

The shelling resulted in damage to:

  • apartment buildings and private houses
  • administrative buildings
  • secondary schools
  • gas pipelines
  • cellular towers

In response to these strikes, officials responsible for dealing with the aftermath reported that all necessary services were engaged to assist the victims. Oleg Grygorov noted that

"all necessary services are involved in eliminating the consequences, and the necessary assistance is being provided to the victims."

It was also reported that fires broke out as a result of the shelling, as announced by the city mayor, Ivan Fedorov. He emphasized the seriousness of the situation caused by the attack. The commander of the military unit, Oleksandr Ganzha, confirmed that

"the Russian army attacked the region last night with drones of various types, and also used artillery."
These events confirm the continuation of hostilities and their impact on the civilian population in Ukraine.

These attacks underscore the ongoing nature of the conflict in Ukraine and its toll on civilians, as the shelling leads to casualties and the destruction of civilian infrastructure. This assault is part of a wider pattern of strikes on Ukrainian cities and energy systems that have intensified during the winter months. Such incidents continue to fuel a humanitarian crisis in the attacked regions and require active measures from state services to aid the victims. Given the increasing intensity of military actions, further steps from the international community could influence the development of the situation in Ukraine.
