Russian Military Assaults Target Two Ukrainian Regions

According to UATV: On January 16, 2023, Russian forces launched a series of heavy attacks against populated areas in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions. These strikes resulted in the deaths of civilians and injuries to law enforcement personnel. This escalation comes as part of a broader pattern of attacks on Ukrainian territory that has stretched on for years.

In Nikopol, two women were killed by artillery fire. According to the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration, six other people were injured in the city. Among the wounded is a 65-year-old woman in critical condition, while another man sustained injuries overnight.

Kharkiv Region Also Comes Under Attack

In the Kharkiv region, the Russian army dropped an aerial bomb on a checkpoint near Kupiansk. This assault wounded two police officers and two soldiers. These specific incidents occurred against a grim backdrop of rising civilian casualties across Ukraine. In 2025 alone, Russian attacks killed 2,514 civilians and injured over 12,000, representing a 31% increase from the previous year.

The ongoing shelling underscores the intensification of the conflict in Ukraine and the continuation of aggressive Russian actions that directly impact civilian lives. The rising toll among non-combatants highlights the severity of the humanitarian crisis in areas affected by the fighting.

'Recent events may prompt the international community to take more active steps in supporting Ukraine and condemning the aggression.'
