Russia's 'Shahed' Drones Adopt New Low-Altitude Attack Routes.
Evolving Russian Attack Methods
According to TSN.ua: Russian forces are altering their tactics for deploying 'Shahed' drones against Ukrainian military targets by exploiting terrain and manual control. Serhii Beskrestnov, an advisor to Ukraine's Minister of Defense, has highlighted new threats from drones flying at extremely low altitudes under manual guidance. He emphasized that the enemy employs a wide array of tactical maneuvers and unconventional solutions, complicating the detection and neutralization of these attacks. These Iranian-made drones have become a staple of Russia's long-range strike capability.
Emerging Threats and Challenges
Beskrestnov also warned that Russia may transition to using faster, jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles like the 'Geran-5'. Aviation expert Anatolii Khrapchynskyi pointed out that Russian drones are now conducting flights at minimal altitudes along highways. This tactic allows them to evade detection and increases the effectiveness of their strikes.
The integration of Starlink technology on these drones poses a critical threat to Ukrainian forces. Beskrestnov called for heightened vigilance regarding:
- riverbeds,
- open plains,
- and extended depressions in the terrain,
which the enemy could use to stage attacks.
"We have technological solutions and we will act, but for now I am asking for the deployment of remote visual and audio observation posts," stated Serhii Beskrestnov.
The situation remains tense, and Ukrainian military personnel must be prepared for new challenges stemming from the adaptation of Russian tactics.
Russia's tactical shift indicates its attempts to adapt to new combat conditions, raising concerns among Ukrainian military officials. The use of terrain for drone concealment and the implementation of new technologies like Starlink could become a serious threat to Ukraine's defense forces. This underscores the critical need for constant situation monitoring and the adaptation of appropriate countermeasures to ensure the security of military installations.
