Russian Drone Strike Targets Odesa Ports, Igniting Oil Tanks and Damaging Grain Storage.
Odesa Region Ports Come Under Attack
According to Novyny.live: Russian forces launched a drone assault on ports in the Odesa region overnight, setting fire to vegetable oil storage tanks and damaging a grain warehouse. According to Oleksiy Kuleba, the enemy specifically targeted port infrastructure, confirming the aggressor's intent to cripple Ukraine's logistical capabilities. Despite the attack, port operations have continued without interruption.
More than 80 firefighters battled the resulting blazes, utilizing approximately twenty pieces of specialized equipment. Their efforts successfully contained the fire and prevented it from spreading further.
Part of a Broader Campaign
This strike on Odesa's ports is part of a wider Russian offensive campaign. Simultaneously, a Russian missile strike on a residential building in Kharkiv was reported, killing nine people. The escalation also included a fifth mass attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, causing power outages for consumers in the following regions:
- Vinnytsia
- Zhytomyr
- Zaporizhzhia
- Mykolaiv
- Khmelnytskyi
- Poltava
- Kharkiv
These attacks underscore Russia's systematic strategy to degrade Ukraine's critical infrastructure, which threatens both the national economy and global food security. The Odesa region is a crucial hub for Ukrainian agricultural exports, and such strikes directly impact global supply chains. The situation in the region remains volatile, with further attacks likely to exacerbate humanitarian issues and intensify the conflict.
