Russians likely executed a Ukrainian prisoner of war with a sword. Ombudsman's reaction.
Russian military likely killed an unarmed Ukrainian prisoner of war with a sword with hands bound with tape. This was reported by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets on his Telegram channel.
“Another war crime - photos appeared on social media showing Russians likely executed an unarmed Ukrainian prisoner of war with a sword with hands bound with tape”, the ombudsman wrote.
Lubinets noted that such actions by the Russians are a gross violation of the Geneva Convention on the treatment of prisoners of war.
The ombudsman sent letters to international organizations, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the UN to document this human rights violation by Russia.
“These demonstrative executions are aimed at demoralizing Ukrainian society. However, seeing such actions, we must become even more resolute in our fight against the aggressor”, the official emphasized.
Recall that earlier the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets contacted the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross regarding the likely execution of a Ukrainian prisoner by the occupiers.
