In Odesa region, scammers deceived the mother of a missing soldier - details.
The mother of the soldier who went missing at the front lost more than half a million hryvnias, believing she was in contact with her son. The criminals extorted documents and money from her. Details of this fraud were revealed by journalists based on materials from the Unified State Register of Pre-Trial Investigations.
A woman from Chornomorsk, along with accomplices, was deceived and had her money and documents stolen when her son went missing at the front. The woman began receiving SMS messages from an unknown number, which she thought was her son, and transferred more than 174 thousand hryvnias to the scammers.
After a few months, she was contacted again via SMS, and she transferred another 120 thousand hryvnias to them. As a result, the woman lost more than half a million hryvnias.
What is the punishment for fraud
The woman who committed this crime was sentenced to three years in prison but was released on the condition that she would appear before the probation authorities and report any change of residence. Separate proceedings have been started against the other two participants in the crime.
It should be noted that in other court hearings, there was a case where a man appropriated state aid funds for the family of a deceased soldier and where a female lawyer was sentenced for corrupt activities.
