Airstrike on Sloviansk

According to UATV: On March 31, 2023, Russian forces launched an aerial assault on a residential neighborhood in Sloviansk, a city in Donetsk Oblast. The attack damaged private homes and local infrastructure. According to preliminary reports, two 250-kilogram high-explosive bombs were dropped, destroying or damaging more than 20 private residences.

Three people sustained injuries, including a 12-year-old girl. In addition to residential damage, the following structures were also hit:

  • a store
  • administrative buildings
  • medical facilities
  • a boiler house
  • non-residential premises

The city’s railway infrastructure was also targeted, resulting in damage to railway facilities, a locomotive depot, and partial window breakage at the station building. Four employees of the locomotive depot were wounded, one of whom is in serious condition.

Frontline Situation

On March 30, law enforcement recorded 1,658 hostile strikes along the front line and residential sectors of Donetsk region. During the night of March 31, the Russian army attacked Ukraine with 289 strike drones; hits were reported at 20 drone impact points across 11 locations.

Vadym Lyakh, head of the Sloviansk City Military Administration, provided updates on the situation in the city.

The National Police clarified that both civilian objects and city infrastructure were affected by the shelling. The Ministry of Communities and Territories Development also reported on the consequences of these attacks.

This airstrike is part of a broader escalation in violence and strikes on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine observed in recent months. Beyond endangering local residents, such attacks compound the already severe humanitarian crisis in the region, as affected cities struggle to restore essential services and aid those impacted by the war.
