Russian Drone Strikes Apartment Building in Kramatorsk, Igniting Fire.
Drone Attack Targets Kramatorsk
According to UATV: A Russian unmanned aerial vehicle, identified as a 'Geran-2' (Geranium-2) drone, struck a multi-story residential building in Kramatorsk, Donetsk Oblast. The attack occurred around 12:20 AM on February 24. The impact started a fire on the upper floors of the structure, though fortunately, no casualties were reported. This incident is part of a pattern of attacks on urban areas in eastern Ukraine, which have intensified in recent months.
The explosion's blast wave caused damage to nine apartment blocks, two educational institutions, and two cars. Local residents reported hearing the loud, distinctive sound of the drone before the strike.
"Just before one in the morning, we could hear a drone, a UAV, flying. It was flying very loudly, and the noise woke us up," said a local resident named Nadiia.
Regional Tensions
This drone strike follows other violent incidents in the region, including Russian shelling on February 23 that left five people wounded. The security situation in Donetsk Oblast remains highly volatile, with continued attacks on civilian infrastructure causing widespread alarm among the population.
The assault on Kramatorsk underscores the ongoing escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, where civilian sites are frequently targeted. These events highlight the severe risks faced by non-combatants in war zones and raise profound concerns about regional safety and the humanitarian crisis. The urgent need to protect civilians and civilian objects becomes ever more critical as hostilities persist.
