Political situation around Russia's offensive

The summer offensive campaign of Russia has not yet ended politically and, according to analysts' forecasts, will approximately last until mid-October. Moscow may continue to increase military pressure on Kyiv, not only on the front lines but also by striking cities in Ukraine, which is part of its strategies. This was stated on August 31 by political analyst Volodymyr Fesenko during a broadcast on the FREEДОМ television channel.

Russia's attempts to predict the outcome of the war

In early spring, Russia hoped for a quick victory, emphasized Fesenko. At that time, Western media published articles with forecasts from the Russian General Staff regarding the development of events in the war.

'Gerasimov (the head of the General Staff of the Russian Federation, - ed.) recently spoke, reporting that everything is fine, they have been implementing the goals of 'SVO' for the fourth year, but they cannot implement anything. But he is silent about this. In the spring, according to some European publications, the same Gerasimov and the Russian General Staff promised Putin that within two to three months the Ukrainian front would crumble, just a little more — the last strike, the last push, and the war would be won. But once again, these hopes were not justified, and accordingly, they have to cover up failures by pointing out that they moved a few kilometers, that Russia has not lost the strategic initiative and so on,' said Fesenko.

Putin's political difficulties

According to Fesenko, the lack of significant achievements on the battlefield has become a serious political failure for Putin. He was unable to convince Trump that Moscow would win this war, which he had high hopes for.

'As soon as Trump came to power, starting in February, Putin in phone conversations with Trump tried to convince the US president that Russia would win the war, that just a little more — and the result would be achieved, that Ukraine could not resist, Ukraine had already lost the war. For this, he used various manipulations. And our president even had to fight against these manipulations and Russian fakes that flooded Trump during negotiations in Washington on August 18. Apparently, our friends in the White House warned us that Trump would convince Zelensky that he lost the war. For this, the card was put in the White House. Zelensky showed that in a thousand days of war, the Russians managed to advance no more than 1% of Ukraine's territory,' noted the political expert.

This situation in the political spectrum indicates growing dissatisfaction in the Kremlin regarding the progress of the special operation. Domestic analysts emphasize that against the background of increasing strategic difficulties, Russia may intensify pressure on neighboring countries to distract attention from internal problems. Further actions of the Kremlin remain in question, but it is clear that Ukraine should remain cautious and ready for any scenarios on the battlefield.
