Zelensky Responds to Trump About Elections in Ukraine: Named the Key Condition.
According to ТСН: President Volodymyr Zelensky successfully responded to Donald Trump's statement about the possibility of holding elections in Ukraine.
Reaction to Trump's Statement
During the broadcast, Oleg Ryabchuk, head of the NGO Center for Common Actions and former Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, noted:
“Zelensky skillfully used Trump’s statement regarding the elections. We constantly hear that as long as the war continues and as long as Zelensky is president, the Russians are not interested in ending the war.”
The Importance of Security for the Elections
Ryabchuk emphasized the need to explain to the public why it is impossible to hold elections under current conditions:
“Zelensky said: if we are guaranteed security, if Russia can be forced to stop attacks, if there will be a situation in Ukraine where nothing flies or explodes, and security is guaranteed — and this is what we strive for, that is, guarantees of security — then we are ready. And then come technical questions. In particular, the question must be raised: who will finance this.”
Beginning Preparations for Elections
The politician also noted that Ukraine should start working together with European lawmakers and leading experts on organizing elections abroad:
“I see a plus in the fact that we should already start thinking, because so far the Verkhovna Rada has not even begun work on the specifics of holding elections — whether in wartime or in conditions of increased threat.”
Ryabchuk emphasized that Zelensky aptly transferred the initiative to Western partners:
“The Americans — it’s not just Vitkoff and Donald Trump Sr. and Jr. There are also quite respectable analysts who understand what is at stake. There are international organizations responsible for elections.”
Cooperation with Partners
Ryabchuk also noted that Ukraine's position is ready to work together with partners to create conditions that will make elections possible:
“That is, we open the doors and say: Please, let’s sit down together, guarantee our voters security, and our politicians — the safety of the campaign. Let’s hold elections to European standards.”
President Zelensky expects proposals from the Verkhovna Rada regarding the holding of elections in Ukraine under martial law. It should also be noted that Trump again emphasized the importance of holding elections in Ukraine, as he stated that they have not been held for a while.
These events highlight the relevance of the issue of elections in Ukraine, especially in conditions of war, where security and international support are key factors. The initiated discussion may become the basis for making important decisions in the future, as society awaits a clear position from the government and partners regarding the electoral process.
