Al Maktoum International Airport: A New Era in Aviation

According to Novyny.live: Dubai is preparing to unveil the Al Maktoum International Airport, a mega-hub designed to become the largest on the planet and eventually replace the existing Dubai International Airport (DXB). Situated southwest of the city, this ambitious facility will span an impressive 70 square kilometers.

The airport's infrastructure will feature:

  • five parallel runways;
  • 400 aircraft gates.

These specifications will enable the airport to handle up to 260 million travelers each year. To put that into perspective, DXB served 86.9 million passengers in 2022. Construction is scheduled in phases, with the first stage—capable of processing 150 million passengers annually—expected to be completed within a decade.

Strategic Significance for Dubai’s Growth

The launch of Al Maktoum International represents a major milestone in Dubai’s infrastructure development and strengthens its foothold in the global aviation industry. The project is designed to meet the region’s rising air travel demand while establishing a modern, efficient transportation network that adheres to top-tier service standards.

This initiative underscores the United Arab Emirates’ ambition to position itself as a leading global transit hub, especially as international air traffic continues to surge. Beyond aviation, the new airport is expected to boost tourism and drive economic growth, as expanded airport infrastructure typically attracts investment and creates jobs. It may also play a key role in preparing for future international events, such as expos and conferences.
