Video captured by fans waiting at the entrance recorded this shocking moment.
An officer near the entrance told SunSport:
“The power line fell into the crowd. There was a loud crack.”
He added:
“We had to redirect entry. This should not have happened.”
Spectators were waiting to enter the field and take their seats for the first matches in the morning. However, the incident caused delays, and people were still queuing just 20 minutes before the first game started.
Volunteers on the field also could not take their positions in time.
This happened after fans had already faced difficulties during enhanced security measures at Bethpage.
Tickets cost $800 (£600) each, but visitors found themselves in slow entry lines.
Enhanced security measures were related to President Donald Trump's planned attendance at the event on Long Island this weekend.
According to former Secret Service agent Donald Lane, the total cost of security measures was around $10 million.
