SBU in Kherson region detained Russian agents who spied on military objects.
The Security Service of Ukraine detained a married couple and their accomplice who collected and transmitted information to the Russian GRU about the locations of personnel and military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the right bank of the Kherson region. This was reported by the SBU press service.
The defendants regularly patrolled the area and covertly recorded the geolocations of the Defense Forces. If the agents discovered a military object, they tried to determine the number of soldiers and types of weapons present. Their accomplice operated according to the same algorithm.
After collecting information, the agents prepared relevant reports and transmitted the materials to their curator in Russia. The curator turned out to be a relative of the couple from the Kherson region, who at the beginning of the full-scale war agreed to cooperate with the invaders and fled to Krasnodar (RF) after part of the region’s territory was liberated.
While on the territory of the aggressor country, the resident acted under the direction of an officer of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, known as the GRU. At his direction, he remotely recruited his brother, his wife from the Kherson region, and a local resident.
Subsequently, the agent couple, disguising themselves as migrants from the Kherson region, moved to Odesa. The SBU cyber experts recorded the criminal activities of this agent group and promptly detained all three participants. During the searches, mobile phones with evidence of communication with the Russian GRU were seized.
Law enforcement officers informed the detainees of the suspicion under Art. 2 of Section 111 (treason committed under martial law); and Art. 3 of Section 114-2 (unauthorized dissemination of information about the movement or placement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other military formations established in accordance with the laws of Ukraine, committed under martial law) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Recall, Russian law enforcement accuses the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Maliuk, of the attack on the Crimean Bridge in 2023.
By the way, a few days earlier, the SBU and the National Police detained five arsonists-provocateurs executing 'orders' from the Russian special services in Kyiv.
Earlier, the counterintelligence of the Security Service detained an FSB agent who attempted to spy on SBU employees and adjusted missile strikes against enterprises in Zaporizhzhia region involved in the defense-industrial complex.
