The SBU announced suspicion against Kadyrov: what the head of Chechnya is accused of.
Ramzan Kadyrov's suspicion of using Ukrainian prisoners of war
According to inkorr.com: The Security Service of Ukraine has officially charged the head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov. He is accused of violating international war norms, in particular using Ukrainian prisoners of war as
a human shield. This information was published by the publication 'Gromadske', citing the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
According to the SBU, after several attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on military facilities in Chechnya, Kadyrov personally gave the order to detain Ukrainian prisoners of war.
Events in Chechnya and Kadyrov's actions
On October 20, 2024, a Ukrainian drone struck the Russian Special Forces University in Gudermes, which is responsible for training Chechen fighters for the war against Ukraine. After this, Kadyrov publicly stated that his subordinates would not take Ukrainian soldiers prisoner.
In December 2024, the Armed Forces of Ukraine dealt new blows to several military facilities in Chechnya, including the building of the A. Kadyrov special forces regiment.
According to investigation information, after these events, Ramzan Kadyrov ensured the detention of at least 200 Ukrainian prisoners of war in the premises of the road patrol service regiment and in the Russian Guard's management in the Chechen Republic.
Thus, keeping prisoners of war in places where law enforcement agencies are located is interpreted as their use to protect these facilities.
Moreover, Turkish media reported that Ramzan Kadyrov nearly drowned while vacationing at a five-star hotel in Bodrum; however, no official confirmation of this information has been received from him so far.
The incident occurred on the beach of The Plaza Hotel in the Kaynar area of Bodrum.
The suspicion raised against Ramzan Kadyrov for using Ukrainian prisoners of war as 'a human shield' is a serious accusation. It could negatively impact relations between Ukraine and Chechnya, causing outrage in Ukrainian society and attracting the attention of international human rights organizations.
Accusations regarding the use of prisoners of war may become an important issue on the international stage, serving as grounds for new discussions about the observance of human rights during the conflict. This situation might again raise questions about the necessity of adhering to international agreements and norms regarding the treatment of prisoners of war.Read also
