SBU prevented a terrorist attack in the center of Kyiv — what is known.
The Security Service of Ukraine on Wednesday, July 23, prevented a terrorist attack in the center of Kyiv. A woman who attempted to blow up a cafe was detained.
According to the SBU, the woman was to leave two homemade explosive devices in the café with a total weight of nearly 1.5 kilograms in TNT equivalent. It was planned that the Russian special services would activate them in the evening, trying to kill as many people as possible. However, law enforcement managed to identify the woman and detain her when she entered the establishment with explosives in her bag.
It later turned out that she was a resident of Kyiv, who was recruited by the occupiers for a terrorist act under 'a foreign flag', convinced that this was her 'task from the SBU'. From her Russian curator, she received the geolocation of the place where she was to leave the explosives.
The suspect's phone containing evidence of her connections with the occupiers was seized, and the issue of qualifying her actions is currently being addressed. The Security Service emphasized that they do not hire individuals to perform illegal acts and operate within the framework of Ukrainian legislation.
The detained woman, who planned to commit a terrorist attack in the center of Kyiv, received instructions from the Russian special services under the guise of being recruited to work for the Security Service of Ukraine. She was timely discovered and detained by law enforcement, preventing a tragedy and averting the loss of lives.
