Activities of the agents
Counterintelligence of the SSU prevented a terrorist attack in Odesa by detaining residents who were recruited by Russian special services through a Telegram channel with offers of "easy earnings". According to the investigation, the agents received coordinates of military facilities, monitored them, marked them on maps, and transmitted the information to their curator in Russia.
"For the purpose of committing a terrorist act, the subjects received coordinates from Russian special services, where they found a cache and took an improvised explosive device (IED) from it," the SSU reported.
During searches of the detainees, mobile phones with evidence of their work for the enemy were seized.
Legal consequences
SSU investigators have charged both agents under Article 14, Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (preparation for a terrorist act). The detainees are currently in custody and face life imprisonment with property confiscation. The operation was conducted by SSU employees in the Odesa region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
It is worth mentioning that recently, the SSU uncovered an attempt by Russian special services to blow up Ukrainian military personnel in Lviv, disguising it as a "date". Cyber specialists of the SSU timely neutralized improvised explosive devices, preventing a tragedy. The enemy used fake accounts on social networks to lure military personnel to dangerous locations.
