The Security Service of Ukraine announced the detention of Dmitry Chistilin - one of the ideologists of Russia's armed aggression. He was an assistant to the former adviser to Vladimir Putin and one of the main organizers of the seizure of Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions. Chistilin was also the developer of the "Information Warfare Strategy" concept, which justified Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

During 2016-2024, Chistilin prepared a number of analytical materials for the Kremlin, in which he supported the armed aggression of the Russian Federation and the integration of occupied territories of Ukraine into Russia.

The Security Service also believes that Chistilin actively assisted Russian special services by writing numerous publications aimed at disinformation about Ukraine.

In addition, Chistilin actively participated in promoting the Kremlin's interests outside of Russia, interfering in electoral processes in Eastern and Central European countries.

According to the SBU, he participated in round tables, acting as a representative of Ukrainian society, but in fact promoted Russian narratives aimed at reducing Western partners' support for Ukraine.

After participating in one of these forums, Chistilin was detained in Moldova together with local law enforcement when he was attempting to return to Russia through third countries.

The detainee was informed of suspicions of state treason and justifying Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine. Chistilin also aided Russian military intelligence, bypassing sanctions.

For this, he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Recall that on October 7, Ukrainian hackers carried out an attack on VGTRK - the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, which is one of Russia's main propaganda platforms. The attack halted the operation of more than 20 TV channels, including "Russia 1", "Russia 24", and "Russia Culture".
