An Extraordinary Fire Hazard Expected in Odesa Region: Where the Highest Risk Lies

Tomorrow, August 18, an extraordinary level of fire hazard is expected in the Odesa region. In several areas of the region, rapid fire spread is possible if a source of ignition appears. Additionally,

forecasters warn of strong winds along the coastline, which could pose additional threats.

This warning is issued on Sunday, August 17, by the Hydrometeorological Center of the Black and Azov Seas.

An extraordinary level of fire hazard is forecasted in Liubashivka, Serbianka, Rozdilna, Sarata, Bolhrad, Vilkovo, and Izmail. Prolonged danger remains in Zatyshshe, Odesa, and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi.

Experts remind of simple rules:

  • do not light campfires in forests, plantations, and open areas;
  • do not burn dry grass and waste;
  • do not throw cigarette butts and matches on the ground;
  • do not leave bottles or glass in the sun — they can act as a lens;
  • explain to children the dangers and do not allow them to play with fire.

If you see a fire, immediately call 101 and try to move to a safe distance.

In addition to the fire hazard, on August 18, a northwesterly wind with speeds of 12-14 m/s is forecasted along the coastline of the region. Such weather is dangerous for vacationers near the sea. Strong waves can sweep away into open water or drag off anchors or carry sea mines onto the shore.

Rescuers urge to be especially attentive. If you encounter a suspicious object on the coast:

  • do not touch it with your hands;
  • do not attempt to move or open it;
  • immediately step back to a safe distance;
  • call 101 or inform the military.

Recall that winters in Ukraine will soon become significantly warmer. We also reported that the length of summer may increase to 180 days.

Summary: The Hydrometeorological Center warns of an extraordinary level of fire hazard in the Odesa region, where strong winds are also expected, with potential increases in water activity near the coast. The population is urged to be cautious and follow all safety measures to prevent fires and other emergencies.
