Breaking Down the Paycheck: How Much Does a Ukrainian Postal Worker Earn?.
How a Postal Worker's Pay is Structured
According to Novyny.live: Ihor Smilianskyi, the General Director of Ukrposhta, has detailed the multi-part salary system for postal carriers. Their total earnings are comprised of a base salary, additional allowances, and a performance-based bonus tied directly to their workload. Smilianskyi argues that this variable pay structure, which fluctuates with the number of tasks completed, is a fair approach.
A postal carrier's pay is calculated from several components:
- 3 hryvnias for each pension payment delivered;
- 50 kopiykas for delivering a newspaper;
- Between 25 and 50 kopiykas for each delivered letter or utility bill;
- A 5% commission on the value of any goods sold, which provides a further incentive.
The Bonus System for Postal Workers
The bonus calculation system has its own specific tiers. Employees ranked in the top 5% nationally receive a bonus with a multiplier of 1.5. The next 40% of carriers are rewarded on a 'hryvnia for hryvnia' matching basis. A further 40% of workers receive only 80 kopiykas for each hryvnia earned, while the lowest-performing 15% of staff receive no bonus payment at all.

This national ranking system highlights the company's stated goal of transparency and fairness in compensation, as pay is directly linked to output. This pay structure is common in logistics and delivery services worldwide, where employee income is often tied to productivity.
Consequently, Ukrposhta's salary and bonus framework is designed to motivate employees to handle a larger workload, which directly impacts their overall income. This system underscores the importance of effective motivation in the postal service sector, where workloads can vary significantly by region and season. By directly linking earnings to completed tasks, the company aims to encourage more active work from its carriers, which could, in turn, improve overall customer service levels for Ukrposhta.
