Trump received distorted intelligence on Putin: a threat to support for Ukraine.
According to ТСН: The situation with support for Ukraine in the United States is becoming increasingly tense. Although most American citizens and politicians support Kyiv, President Donald Trump's entourage is promoting narratives that align with Kremlin interests. In particular, there are reports from intelligence that may distort Vladimir Putin's true intentions.
President of the Ronald Reagan Republican Club Boris Pincus comments on this situation, noting that US National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard passed on information to Trump that does not reflect reality on the geopolitical stage.
Pincus adds that Gabbard informed the president that Vladimir Putin has no intentions of capturing all of Ukraine or entering into open warfare with European countries. The most concerning aspect is that the American leader may believe this information. This creates a risk of weakening the White House's position against the aggressor.
Internal divisions in the Republican Party
Despite the position of the president's closest entourage, a serious split is emerging within the Republican Party. Many of Trump's fellow party members do not share his optimistic view of Russia and are trying to convey to him the truth that the Kremlin's primary goal is the complete subjugation of Ukraine.
Boris Pincus emphasized that the legislative power in the US has significant influence. According to him, there are 85 votes out of 100 in the Senate in favor of imposing strict sanctions against Russia. Such a number of votes will allow overcoming any presidential veto.
"If a law regarding this is passed, Trump will be unable to counter it and will be forced to increase pressure on Putin," explained the Republican.
Possible changes in policy
Experts predict that the situation may change in the near future. Trump is aware of the sentiments within the party and society, and therefore he cannot ignore the aggression of Russia for long.
"Patience is wearing thin. We need to wait until the middle of January. Then the vector of Trump's political actions may change significantly," concluded Boris Pincus, hinting at the beginning of the new political season in 2026, when the Senate may take active action.
Moreover, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced new high-level peace negotiations. According to him, a meeting of representatives from the 'coalition of the willing' will take place soon and is scheduled for January 3 in Ukraine.
This situation underscores the importance of international support for Ukraine, as well as the impact of US internal politics on the development of relations between states. With the change in the political landscape and possible changes in the US, the Ukrainian side must remain vigilant and ready for active diplomatic dialogue.
