Trump threatens Mexico with intervention: The country is run by cartels.
According to ТСН: After a special US operation in Venezuela, during which President Nicolas Maduro and his wife were detained, American President Donald Trump hinted at a possible intervention in Mexico, where, according to him, drug cartels rule.
Trump expressed this opinion in a comment to Fox News. When asked whether he meant the attack in Venezuela to send a signal to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, he noted:
We are very friendly with her [the President of Mexico], she is a good woman. But Mexico is run by cartels, not her.
The President of the United States also added that Sheinbaum has repeatedly rejected his proposals to intervene in the fight against the cartels and eradicate drug crime, but he has not received her consent.
Something will have to be done about Mexico, he ominously hinted.
According to the publication, Trump's comments came after his officials praised Mexico for a significant surge in cooperation, citing a record number of cartel arrests and successful fentanyl seizures.
It is noteworthy that Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have been charged with conspiracy to commit drug terrorism, supplying cocaine, and possession of weapons and explosives that could be used against the United States.
These events indicate an escalating tension in relations between the US and Latin American countries. Trump's response to the situation in Venezuela and his comments regarding Mexico may signal a change in the Washington administration's tactics in the fight against drug trafficking and support for allies in the region. The importance of cooperation with Mexico in the context of countering the cartels will continue to remain at the center of US international policy.
