The Trump Administration is ready to provide Ukraine with security guarantees based on NATO Article 5.
According to ТСН: The administration of Donald Trump plans to provide Ukraine with guarantees based on NATO Article 5, which will be approved by Congress and will come into legal force.
A senior U.S. official announced this.
“We want to provide Ukrainians with a security guarantee that will not be a blank check on one hand but will be strong enough on the other. We are ready to send it to Congress for a vote,”
He also noted that three separate agreements are planned, concerning peace, security guarantees, and the restoration of Ukraine. The source claims that negotiations regarding the post-war economic aid package are proceeding successfully.
“According to the current proposal, the war will end with Ukraine maintaining sovereignty over 80% of its territory, receiving the largest and strongest security guarantees it has ever received, and a very significant package of measures to ensure prosperity,”
It should be noted that the “coalition of the willing” has developed security guarantees that are to be provided to Ukraine after the end of the war. However, the participation of the U.S. and the specific details of the involvement of individual countries remain uncertain.
Donald Trump mentioned during a briefing at the White House that the United States is ready to provide Ukraine with security guarantees, as this is important for the implementation of the peace agreement.
He also expressed that the current proposal for the agreement has not received full support from the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
In response, Zelensky did not rule out the possibility that the war could end next year but emphasized that the country must have significant stocks of weapons to ensure security in the future.
REFERENCE: Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty is the key principle of NATO's collective defense: an armed attack against one member of the Alliance is considered an attack against all. This obligates each member country to provide assistance, including the use of armed force, if deemed necessary to restore security, but specific actions are determined by each state.
Thus, U.S. efforts to provide Ukraine with security guarantees within NATO underscore the importance of international support in the context of current challenges. These initiatives aim not only to support Ukraine amid war but also to lay the groundwork for stable peace in the region after its conclusion.
